Real-time TIRF Microaaryas

(Classical 2D TIRF microarrays)

10-22   M limit of detection. Detects 3 classes of biomarkers: DNA/RNA, proteins, metabolites. Rapid, multiplexed, downsizeable. Requires expensive EMCCD camera. Central or mobile lab.

Traditional off-line microarrays

10-14 - 10-9  M limit of detection. Detects 1 class of biomarkers: either DNA/RNA, or proteins, or metabolites. Slow, off-line analysis, large background. Central or mobile lab.

PCR-based Detection

10-22  M limit of detection. Detects DNA/RNA only, no proteins, no metabolites. Slow and expensive. Central or mobile lab.

Bead-based Detection

10-14 - 10-10  M limit of detection. Detects 3 classes of biomarkers: DNA/RNA, proteins, metabolites. Complex expensive optics. Slow. Central or mobile lab.

Label-free Detection

SPR, QCM, FET, EC, ...

10-10 - 10-8  M limit of detection, poor sensitivity, too large background, high rates of false positive and false negative responses. Single class of biomarkers. Good for home use.
